Does Social Media Marketing Make Sense for the Smallest Businesses? - eMarketer

A recent article from eMarketer shows that many small businesses owners are unsure, and uninformed about whether or not they should be using SEO and Social Media to connect with their customers.

Only 25% of responders thought that their customers want to hear from them on social networks.

And only 33% were aware that their customers are doing online research before coming to them for business.

The article goes on to say,

With a majority of US internet users on social networks, chances are the customers of even small local businesses are there. According to BIA/Kelsey and ConStat, 97% of US internet users used online media to look for local products and services in Q1 2010, and 90% used search engines. Research from comScore and TMP Directional Marketing shows that, looking for local businesses, searchers are much more likely to use a search engine than a social networking site as their primary resource, but both are used, especially among young people.

Why Create a Personal Profile Video?

Because sometimes it's important to just get personal.  If you're in a business that's person to person like a massage practitioner, financial adviser, or real estate agent you're not going to build customer trust and confidence with a corporate branded marketing piece.

Someone looking for a personal service like that is looking to see that you are honest, pleasant, and have integrity. Those things don't come through in a flashy animation or an actor presented message, but they can come through if you're giving a short talk about your philosophy and what clients should expect when they set an appointment.

Another thing to think about when starting the process of creating a Personal Profile Video is who your clients are. If your clients are business owners, then a professional video directed at highlighting the benefits of doing business with your company might be appropriate. If your clients are consumers with whom you will have a long relationship with throughout the purchase process, then a more casual get-to-know-you profile video might be in order.

Ultimately, a personal profile video helps break down the barriers to the purchase process.  People are more likely to do business with someone they know and trust, and a Personal Profile Video is a  great introduction to a world full of new clients.

Is Commercial Advertising Expensive?

At Pardiman Productions we often deal with the misconception that commercial advertising is extremely expensive and that a small business owner could never afford something like that.  Actually, the opposite is true.  Advertising with a :30 commercial can be very affordable.

:30 second commercial costs on television can be in the single digits per broadcast slot depending on channel and time of day.  And with cable media buys you can target just Thurston County if that is where your customers are.

As for the cost of production, while a :30 commercial will cost you more to produce than a print ad, the overall value of a :30 commercial can be infinite.  Unlike media that is produced and then never seen or heard again, the internet gives your :30 commercial the ability to keep selling years into the future.

Online Video A Great Investment!

Wondering if your business could benefit from our Video Profiles?  The first question to ask is “Do you have a website?”  If your answer is yes, then you definitely should be taking advantage of a web video, and at Pardiman Productions we make web video affordable, painless, and easy.

The videos we produce need to be on your website. "Brands using online video have seen lifts of 20% to 40% in terms of incremental buying, with conversions that are twice the rate of other media." (1)  The key is to keep people on your website as long as you can. Video keeps eyes glued to your site.

Also, place your videos on other video sharing websites like youtube, vimeo and more.  Bottom line, I do not care how they find you, just that they do and videos on or off your website make a big difference. “Well-optimized video is fifty-three times more likely than text to appear on the front page of Google.” (2)

Finally, the types of videos you should be producing: Video Profiles (one for each key person within your business or organization), New Product Introduction Videos, Training and How To Videos, Testimonials, Promotional Videos, and the list goes on.

Lets not forget that on-line you have a 24/7 sales presence. Contact me today 360-259-6672. Your business needs on-line video.
